Presented by EFDSS and The Magpie’s Nest

Folk Rising returns for 2011 for a third season with the brightest new folk in the firmament. The three-part studio concert series will showcase a sample of the fresh, undiscovered and at times radical music being produced within the indefinable folk tradition.

Sunday 6       Family Barn Dance
Presented in association with the Friends of Cecil Sharp House
Bring the family along for fun , lively dances from all over the British Isles, with a band and caller to help you along. Dances are specially selected to suit children of all ages Refreshments available. With caller Jane Pfaff and band – Jeremy Monson and David Sutton Anderson

A creative week of fabulous foot stomping, folk music making activities. For young people 11-19 years, all levels of musical experience. Newcomers to folk as well as dedicated folk enthusiasts.

Saturday 26       The Broadside Day
Presented by EFDSS and the Traditional Song Format
A one-day event exploring aspects of street literature and popular print traditions. Following our very successful Broadside Day in 2009, we are holding a second event on similar lines, which will investigate various aspects of popular printed culture, including, but not confined to, broadside ballads and songs. The day will include a lively mixture of topics and styles of presentation, with some formal papers but also work in progress reports and discussions.
