GUITAR WORKSHOP

The Crown Inn, 191 High St, Lewes BN7 2NA

David is a brilliant young guitarist, singer & songwriter who recently graduated from the Newcastle University traditional music degree course. He's currently touring with the distinguished fiddler Tom McConville & also US fiddler & singer Christi Andropolis. He's recorded with Rubus & also Sandra Kerr.

David’s unique style mixes folk, rock and roll, blues, slide and a tiny bit of jazz. Using a mix of flatpick and fingerstyle, he’s keen to draw as much from the instrument as possible, and not limit it to one genre. In his hands, the guitar is tastefully and artfully pushed as far as it will go when accompanying himself or others.

Admission £8.

Melody Playing – tunes and songs, both fingerstyle and flatpick.

Accompaniment Techniques – How to use chords effectively with traditional and original material and tunes.

Tunings – Alternative tunings – we’ll look at some interesting G tunings, D tunings, and anything else you fancy.

Scales, Warm Ups and Improvisation – We’ll take a look at these three, use some guitar based theory, and give you some ideas to get your playing continuously moving.

I’ll also be very open to taking questions on the day, looking at specifics and generally exploring the instrument.

N.B. Booking is recommended as numbers are limited. Music will be sent in advance & maps & accommodation lists on request.
