Message from Jacquelyn Hynes re new music classes in South London.
Folk On Fridays at Morley College 7.30 to 9.30 Come and join! Learn Irish traditional jigs, reels, slides, hornpipes airs and music from the British Isles in a very friendly fun atmosphere. Basic instrumental ability but no prior knowledge of Folk or traditional music required. All instruments/levels of ability welcome. Suitable for adult learners. Folk on Fridays also incoprorates visits to The Irish Cultural Centre and occasional folk events in London.

Classes are already in progress, but new students eagerly welcomed as a mistake in advertising by the College (accidental omission from their prospectus and website!) has resulted in low enrolment numbers if you’re thinking about joining a class come along soon to boost numbers and ensure this one keeps going.

Message from Councillor Jonathon Simpson, Mayor of Camden:

I am writing to ask you to help me celebrate the people that have helped Camden have a world renowned music heritage through a one off initiative called "Camden's Unsung Heroes".

Camden is famous for its musical heritage and I am keen to hear about those who have been instrumental in bringing music into the heart of their community. I want to recognise those who have gone out of their way to make a difference and continue to keep Camden's music heritage alive within Camden's music industry sector and the local community. The initiative is kindly being sponsored by local businesses so is at no cost to local council tax payers.
Many music events focus on the performers who make music, but I wish to celebrate the people who have tirelessly run venues and helped give performers their first break. I also want to celebrate the many people who are involved in local community music projects.

I attach a flyer and hope that you will help me promote this initiative and hopefully send in nominations. (www.camden.gov.uk/ccm/content/council- and-democracy/news/2011/nominate-your-unsung-
heroes.en;jsessionid=9F253C4B0A455F542D45DEE96824C498)

These awards will be a wonderful opportunity to recognise and value our Unsung Heroes and the winners will be invited to a fantastic reception at the Roundhouse.
Nominations should outline:

* How the person has contributed (through music performance or teaching/mentoring to involve and encourage others to participate and enjoy
music in the borough) or
* How the person has contributed in the industry (range of areas including
venue managers, administration, technical, promotion or artistic support)

You can email your nominations to me at mayor_at_camden_dot_gov_dot_uk or write to me at the Mayor’s Parlour, London Borough of Camden Town Hall, Judd St, WC1H 9JE
I am really looking forward to receiving nominations for Camden's Unsung Heroes and would be really grateful for your support in helping to promote them to your customers.

Yours sincerely,

Councillor Jonathan Simpson
Mayor of Camden

The Irish community in Britain is running a national campaign to encourage as many Irish and people of Irish descent to register their Irish ethnicity in the upcoming Census, taking place on the 27 March 2011. We're doing this to combat underrepresentation of the Irish in official figures.

You can play a critical role in making this happen. For the moment we're building a database of supporters who identify with their Irish roots. We're calling on you to sign up to the campaign and invite your friends, contacts and colleagues to sign up too. This will give the campaign the right support it needs to be the success we all want it to be.

Please help by joining the campaign, where you also can find out more about it, at www.howirishareyou.com
