Subject: Merry Christmas from Folk in the Barn..
Hello and Christmassy Greetings to you all Well here we are nearly at the end
of the year with just one gig to go - tomorrow night with our long time
favourite - Martyn Joseph. What a way to end an amazing year of music. Too
many highlights to list and impossible to choose a favourite - they have all
been amazing. The Aggies were fantastic as usual and really put us all in the
Christmas Spirit. Thanks to all of you who have come along and supported the
concerts and helped keep this thing going and growing. And thanks to those of
you who have dragged along friends and helped to grow the support. We couldn't
do it without you - and wouldn't want to. I really look forward to seeing you
all, so many of you have become friends now and every evening has such a
lovely warmth, I'm on a high for days afterwards. I'd also like to thank
everyone that has helped this year, to my faithful regular team Lynette
Underwood and Mick O'Rourke and all other helpers - Helen, Rosie, Pete and Sue
who run the bars, to Phil and Katherine Wilson at Independent Music
Productions - who do a great job providing PA and sound, and to Joe Passey at
Wincheap Guest House for providing artist accommodation. They are all fab and
work really hard to help produce a great night out for everyone. I'd also like
to thank all the musicians who have played this year - especially Luke Jackson
who has literally grown before our eyes into an astonishing young performer.
It's a pleasure and a privilege to work with all of you.
I promise I will try to continue to keep the standard of music as high as it's
been and keep providing much needed opportunities for these wonderful
musicians to share their talents. I don't know about you but I feel
privileged to be part of their world - its certainly where the best music is -
not on the tele or radio - but that makes it even more special somehow, like
it's our secret! But we musn't keep it to ourselves - please keep spreading
the word so that more people can get the same enjoyment we do. So many people
when they come along for the first time, say they had no idea this world
existed, or that 'Folk music' was as cool as this! I'm sure there's many more
out there who would love it if they knew about it, and the more support there
is, the better for everyone.
Anyway -it must be Christmas... I'm getting all sentimental - I should stop -
there's business to attend to (and I don't want to miss the Strictly final!!)
Firstly - there are a few returns for tomorrow night if anyone would like
them, email me tonight or tomorrow morning - or ring 01227 831493 and I'll
reserve them for you. We've got two pairs and a three, so if you fancy a
great night out at short notice or know anyone that might - let me know. St
Gregory's Centre for music - doors 7.15pm for 8pm - the Welsh Springsteen -
Martyn Joseph supported by Luke Jackson - I'll resell the returns for cost
price £16, and there'll be a few more on the door for £17.
I had my first Christmas parcel arrive yesterday - sadly it wasn't chocolates
- instead it was the newly printed tickets for the Spring season - hooray!
I'm therefore thrilled to announce that booking is now OPEN for the following

Most of you know we really enjoy putting on cosy intimate gigs in smaller
venues, but we've decided it might be nice to go 'even cosier' and have
invited our good friend Reg Meuross to be our guinea pig for this experiment -
and happily he's agreed. Our first event is just a month away - 15th January
(my birthday!) at the Black Robin Inn, Kingston. And as it's a winter Sunday
we're going to start earlier than usual - doors 6pm music starting at 6.30pm
so we can finish early - approx 8.30 - 8.45pm so everyone can get home at a
reasonable time ready for Monday morning. There will be a light bite menu
available if you want to eat first you can, the bar will be open. There are
only 50 tickets available for this concert so be quick if you want to reserve
yours.
That's it for now - see some of you tomorrow night - the rest of you have a
fantastic Christmas and New Year and see you in 2012.
Best wishes
Debs
