The next Frittenden session at the Bell & Jorrocks is this Sunday, the 29th January, starting at 8pm.
This time our guest is the lovely pipes, whistles and flute player Chris
Walshaw, well known for playing with various groups and bands including
Angles, the Climax Ceilidh Band, Meridian, Zephyrus (The English Bagpipe
Orchestra led by Jon Swayne) and Stocai.
Chris is a Frittenden
favourite and this will be a great opportunity to hear a little more of what
he can do.
Our guest is a tunes man, but the format we follow at Frittenden is designed
to make sure there's time for the rest of us to play tunes, sing dance and
tell stories - or anything else that's entertaining and legal that you might
have to give us.
The Frittenden sessions are an entertaining old fashioned and traditional pub
evening with songs and tunes, and plenty of variety and good humour. If
you’ve got a song, a tune, a stepdance or story, enjoy joining in with a
chorus or just like listening in the bar, please come along. We go on until
it’s time to close with Nellie Dean the old way – just as people used to
before the telly and the computer.
We look forward to seeing you on the night!

Debs Newbold
re-tells "King Lear"
The Electric Theatre Guildford GU1 4SZ
Debs Newbold is a
remarkable young performer who leads workshops at the Globe Theatre and is
storyteller in residence at Cecil Sharp House. This stunningly re-woven and
passionately re-told version of Shakespeare's tragedy, specially commissioned
by The Hay Literary Festival, received critical acclaim:
"Debs pulled me into her world soaked with Shakespeare's
language...she made this work her own, and with her unconquerable energy
swept us right into the heart of the storm". - Emer O'Connor, StoryNight
Diary

Friday 27th January
Walsh & Pound
The Guildford
Institute, Ward Street (opposite Guildford Library), Guildford GU1 4LH
The folk club at the
Guildford Institute (in Ward Street opposite Guildford Library) welcomes one
of the hottest young duos on the folk scene on Friday 27th January, Dan Walsh
and Will Pound. Remarkable young harmonica player Will Pound has been
nominated the BBC Radio 2 Folk Musician of the Year Award 2012 and has already
been awarded the best instrumentalist of 2011 at the Fatea Music Awards.
Alongside ace clawhammer banjo player Dan Walsh ('The best banjo player
I've seen in Britain' Don Wayne Reno, Hayseed Dixie) the duo's debut
album has been nominated for a 2012 Spiral Earth Award.
Prepare to be astonished by stunning vocals, frailing banjo wizardry and
sounds you didn’t think were possible on harmonica.
