The Artists

Anna Tabbush is an folk singer with her roots in English traditions. She has taught sea shanties, ballads and ditties to audiences of all ages and abilities across the country. Anna currently directs Guildford Vox Community Choir, a choir of roughly seventy singers which she has run for the past 6 years. Anna has also established six other community choirs across the south east, three of which are still running under new leaders. Expect hearty, uplifting songs in luscious harmony taught by an energetic and encouraging leader!

In this fun workshop led by Dessislava Stefanova, participants will have a  chance to plunge into this rich living tradition. They will be  introduced to the basic techniques of voice production and special vocal effects (like shaking and hiccoughing) used in Bulgarian singing. They will learn fun Bulgarian songs in two and three-part harmony (though  discordance might  be a better word). Suitable for all who want to make a noise. Dessislava Is founder and leader of  the London Bulgarian Choir.

Gospel music is a music of celebration and joy! You’ll be familiar with songs like “Oh Happy Day” and “Lean on Me”. Well now is your chance to get involved and SING OUT Gospel Style! Gail Windrass has been leading Gospel Choirs for the past 8 years. She is an accomplished singer and community musician, with a keen interest in making Gospel Music more accessible to the wider world. One of her most notable achievements is the setup of the Luton Gospel Community Choir - now in its 9th year.

U'Zambezi Arts are a UK based arts ensemble that specialise in art forms from southern Africa. The group’s membership is drawn from composers, songwriters, dance and music practitioners, consultants and arts event managers brought together by a love for what they do that they are so very proud to share.Past performances include prestigious venues like the JFK Centre in Washington DC, Opera de Paris, Ronnie Scotts in London and at the Brisbane City Hall in Australia. Some member’s CVs and profiles include performing for such dignitaries as Nelson Mandela and Queen Elizabeth II amongst others. U’Zambezi Arts will be sharing their music and dance in this “participatory performance” in which audience members can sing, drum and dance to the uplifting rhythms and luscious harmonies which characterise the music of southern Africa.
