Music Discovery Day
inspiring info for the active music making events
25th March, at Cecil Sharp House, Camden

Hi everyone,

I sent through the big info on our Music Discovery Day a couple of weeks ago. As the event has so many elements to it I'm using this space to invite ALL MUSICIANS and all people who are interested in CREATIVE MUSIC MAKING - some activities do not even require to play an instrument :-)

Check for full info here, download the flyer from here, or ask anything else here. Last but note least: the LGO ticket hotline - please pass on to all your friends and collegues who play music!

Workshops 4.15pm:

1) Make a musical instruments from RECYCLED MATERIALS:
Invent your own or follow the instructions from the leader, and after the instrument is crafted, you will be playing music with the whole group. This is a fun workshop, no musical skills or experience is needed, it is for the whole family. You could collect items and materials from your recycled bin (pots, boxes, containers, coloured paper, foil...) or use ours. You also could bring along sturdy scissors, so you don't have to share ours.

2) Make a Wind instrument from CARROTS AND PARSNIPS
One of the highlights of this day - you won't find anything similar again so quickly :-).
We will supply the vegetables, you need to bring your mouth piece (we have a few simple ones). It works best for brass and reeded instruments. After making your new music gadget, you will aim to play together - you might imagine the challenge as carrots are not grown to measure ! And the sound, well, will be an undescribable surprise... This is only from 13 years onwards, and all minors need to have an adult as powerdrills are used.

Jam Sessions 4.45pm - FREE:

Discovery Jam Session:
This is another novelty occasion, that is great fun, but often not permitted at home! Glass bottles, filled with water may play the first violin, whilst your egg slicer replaces the guitar and the small saucepan + lid the drumkit. Bring anything you fancy exploring to play - no potential dangerous objects please... Great fun for any age...
Free admission - there will be a busket for voluntary donations :-)

Traditional Jam Session:
For all instruments and levels. We will have a few leading jammers and some sheet music. However, the idea is making music together. You may bring a piece, where others play along and put in your suggestion. Styles could be anothing from international folk, ethnic, jazz, classic (have you ever jammed over Vivaldi's 4 seasons? I did !!!) to improvisation to avantgarde, this entirely depends on who is joining...
Free admission - there will be a busket for voluntary donations :-)

I'm looking forward so much to this day, as it is slighly different from our usual events!
