Subject: Wessex Acoustic Gig March 9th
WESSEX ACOUSTIC FOLK CLUB
The next gig is on this coming Friday 9th March when we are hosts to Wendy Arrowsmith again. It is two years since she was last at the club and we are thrilled to have her back.
Wendy was originally booked after hearing her on CD and seeing a video of her performing. This is a break from our normal policy of seeing our guest acts perform live before we will book them. Many artists produce fantastic CDs in the comfort of a studio with carefully arranged accompaniment and technical ?tweaking', but recreating that quality live on stage sometimes falls short of expectation, or maybe the stage presence is not as expected. We were so impressed by Wendy's performance on video we booked her sight unseen. She exceeded our expectations!
Wendy is a Scottish singer-songwriter, now living in Yorkshire, with a beautiful, strong, clear voice. Her repertoire spans traditional songs, her own traditional style songs, wonderful ballads, contemporary folk and humorous children's songs.
Being a well travelled folk singer and a mother of two growing children, Wendy has no end of delightful tales and jokes to tell too. Being married to a top class banjo player demands a good sense of humour!
Since her last visit to the club, Wendy has impressed folk club and folk festival organisers up and down the country and is very much in demand.
Wendy has appeared at Swanage Folk Festival for the last two years and is booked to come back again in 2013. She has proved a firm favourite with the festival crowds and we are delighted to have her back at the club.
Supporting Wendy is the not-quite-so-local Devonian Roger ?Smudge' Smith, one of the leading stars of the Devon based Shantymen, Hanging Johnny.
Roger is a seasoned performer, singing songs with a taste of the sea, and a salty sense of humour to go with them.
Tickets for this great night out are only ?8, unless you book ahead, in which case it is the bargain price of ?6! The price is no reflection on the quality of our artists, but an effort in time of recession to encourage a few more people to come along and enjoy a night of great entertainment for a modest outlay.
Please bring your friends along for a great Wessex Acoustic night out.
Book your tickets NOW by replying to this email or calling Kathy on 01202 732239. It costs nothing to book, you only pay when you come on the night, and it makes sure we have enough seating for everyone. We were struggling to fit everyone in for Johnny Coppin.
Remember opening time for the Legion is 7pm. Our doors open at 8pm or earlier if sound checks permit.
This will be another amazing night of fantastic music and humour. Please come and give Wendy a ?proper' Wessex Acoustic welcome.
You can hear Wendy singing on her website http://wendyarrowsmith.com or search out some of the clips of her on YouTube.
Tickets are now on sale for FAIRPORT Acoustic CONVENTION on Friday 25th May at 8pm at Upton Community Centre, Upton, Poole. ?20 a ticket, children half price. We are laying on a licenced bar with Sixpenny Handley Ale and other drinks available, but no food. See the website for details of how to get your tickets or buy them at our club night. Cash or cheque payment please.
Hope to see you at the club soon.
