On Thursday October 4th  8.00pm at Cecil Sharp House (2, Regents Park Road, London NW1) there will be a "Travellers in Town" concert headed by Irish Traveller singer Thomas McCarthy and the Doyle Family Band, supported by Finbar Wall and Oliver Mulligan.  Whilst Thomas sings unaccompanied in the stunning, powerful old style of the Irish Travellers, Simon Doyle and his three daughters amaze us with the five different instruments they play between them. Both acts can move to both high spirits and deep soulfulness with energetic jigs and reels to slow airs from the Doyles and powerfully tragic to hilarious songs from Thomas. Add in a couple of dance steps and a story or two, together with the well respected support acts and we are set for a night that will move you to both tears and laughter. Tickets on the door at ?8.50 or from www.wegottickets.com in advance.

www.tradconnect.com Connecting traditional Irish musicians across the world

Any online community that can have amongst its members the great and the good from the world of traditional Irish music must be worth checking out. www.tradconnect.com is one such site and in less than a year it has attracted 2,300+ members including the likes of Kevin Crawford, Joe Burke, Moya Brennan, Athena Tergris, Jimmy Keane, Paddy O'Brien, Dan Gurney, Brian Conway, Paul McGlinchey, Tom McElvogue, Carmel Gunning to name just a few. Carmel Gunning has described it as one if the best sites for traditional Irish music that she has ever seen and Kevin Crawford loves the interaction. Kevin's opinion carries some weight as he is part of L?nasa, Teetotallers and is a solo star in his own right.

The site was created by Dubliner man Tony Lawless and it is being described as Facebook for traditional Irish musicians. Nearly half of its 2,300 members are from the US and the site affords them the opportunity to connect with their fellow musicians in Ireland and across the globe. While it is offering a great single online channel for professional musicians to promote their music to a captive music audience, the heart of the site is really aimed at anyone that is learning or playing traditional music. And best of all it's all free. It aims to connect you with other players in your location for the purpose of promoting the music , providing more practice opportunities and starting more sessions. It groups players by geographical location which should prove a real winner when promoting local events. In addition it has specialist groups for various instruments such as concertina, fiddle, bodhr?n etc

It is also uncovering a world of great music which is especially important for musicians with self produced and recorded albums. Tradconnect will review these albums for you and feature them on the site. Constructed using very sophisticated software it is a welcome addition as it combines both online and offline aspects of the music. www.tradconnect.com
