A WEEKEND TO REMEMBER?

Before the festival has even started in earnest, we have something completely different on Thursday 2nd (8-10pm) at The Ham Marquee as the sizzling sounds of New Orleans fill East Devon's coastal resort with The Big Chris Barber Band and their unique brand of traditional jazz and blues.

Another unique pre-festival special on Friday 3rd (3-4pm) sees a special concert version of War Horse  - a unique reading byBritain's most celebrated children's author and former Children's Laureate Michael Morpurgo with songs from John Tams & Barry Coope.

The Ham Marquee continues tooffers a jam-packed programme of quality concerts over the festival's first weekend. The first evening sees Devon's favourite folk duo Show of Hands with Miranda Sykes plus rising stars Phillip Henry & Hannah Martin

Saturday eases in with an Opening Welcome Concert featuring Exmouth Shanty Men, Debby McClatchy and others, then steps it up a gear with Zimbabwe's high-stepping dancers and powerhouse a cappella singers Black Umfolosi and Aboriginal singer songwriter Frank Yamma and an evening treat with the high-energy tunes and heart-wrenching songs of Irish band Dervish, fronted by the consummate vocals of Cathy Jordan, Ireland's a cappella singers The Voice Squad support in sweet harmony.

A lazy Sunday is not an option as the day unfolds with effervescent fiddle playing from the young Highland player in Rua Macmillan Trio, then uniquely crafted songs from true-tongued English singer Chris Wood, darkly delicate songs from Jonny Kearney & Lucy Farrell and an evening featuring the mighty combination of Celtic musical maestros Michael McGoldrick, John McCusker andJohn Doyle.
