8 SEPT: KAREN RYAN, PETE QUINN & BRONA McVITTIE (fine Irish
musicians and singer, three of the London Lasses' current line-up; mainly
traditional songs and tunes)
15 SEPT: SISTERS UNLIMITED (strong quartet of women with
traditional and modern songs, serious and comic)
22 SEPT: closed for Nic Jones concert, Cecil Sharp House
29 SEPT: BESKYDY (eastern European music from excellent and
popular band with fine singer)
6 OCT: NEW DEAL STRING BAND (the best American old-timey band
living in the UK; Tom and Ben Paley and Joe Locker, with songs and tunes on
banjo, guitar and fiddle)
13 OCT*: ALICE GERRARD AND BEVERLY SMITH (great American singers
of old-timey and more modern songs; Alice was formerly in a famous duo with
Hazel Dickens, and Beverly in another with Carl Jones)
20 OCT: STANLEY ACCRINGTON (one of the wittiest men on the folk
scene; mainly comic songs, some leftist, and the odd serious one)
27 OCT: DAMIEN BARBER AND MIKE WILSON (powerful singing of
traditional and other songs, accompanied and unaccompanied)
3 NOV*: MARTIN CARTHY (what more need be said?)
10 NOV: FELIX HOLT and LAURA SMYTH (young male singer-songwriter
with traditional influences shares evening with young female singer of
traditional songs, both excellent )
17 NOV: PETE MORTON AND ROGER WILSON (two established performers
form new duo - traditional songs from Roger, and Pete's songs;
accompaniment on fiddle and guitar)
24 NOV: CRAIG, MORGAN, ROBSON (wonderful harmonies on traditional
and other songs from Moira, Sarah and Carolyn, singing together again after a
break of a year or so)
1 DEC: BRIAN DAWSON (veteran Lincolnshire singer with great
traditional repertoire, including songs collected by, and unique to, him)
8 DEC: GAIL WILLIAMS AND JIM YOUNGER (mainly old-timey songs and
tunes, some sung unaccompanied and others with fiddle, banjo or concertina;
great singing and playing)
2013
5 JAN: MARY HUMPREYS AND ANAHATA (mainly traditional songs - most
English and a few Welsh - and tunes on concertina, melodeon, cello and pipes)
12 JAN: VICKI SWAN & JONNY DYER (songs and tunes, traditional
and modern, on nyckelharpa, smallpipes, guitar, etc, from youngish duo)
VENUE: Exmouth Arms, Starcross Street, London NW1 2HR (on the
corner of Cobourg Street, near Euston and Euston Square stations; parking is
easy), on Saturdays at 8.15pm
