Press release

Sidmouth FolkWeek
The streets are alive with the sound of music!

Our first weekend at Sidmouth FolkWeek (3
rd - 10th August) has been a scorcher!

The town and seafront is a hive of activity as the festival fills the streets with a celebratory atmosphere - lively music, dance and song everywhere you go. Happy holiday makers and festival goers mingle along the action-packed esplanade?and festival venues are full to brim with smiling faces.

The HUB - the main performance area for the festival - centres on the
Ham, with a major concert venue featuring three successful daily events. On Thursday night, The Big Chris Barber Band came marching in - delighting the crowds at The Ham Marquee with their smouldering brand of trad jazz and blues.

On Friday, there wasn't a dry eye in the house as the acclaimed children's author Michael Morpurgo brought us his moving
First World War story War Horse complete with haunting songs from songmakers John Tams and Barry Coope. The evening saw a sell-out show with local heroes Show Of Hands.

Black Umfolosi brought their own sunshine with them on Saturday afternoon - getting full audience participation with their unbridled sense of fun and energy, rich harmonies and impressive dance moves. The evening saw Ireland's premier traditional band Dervish get us in the mood for the other Celtic headliners later in the week (Fri 10
th 7.30pm with Donal Lunny, Padraig Rynne and Sylvain Barou.
