Nibs and Guy (Silver Ovation Award winners for best musical production at the 2012, National Arts Festival) will be playing 2 intimate acoustic performances at Bloomsberries Garden Café on Friday 10, Saturday 11 August. Delicious meals will be on sale, made with the finest quality ingredients, freshly prepared and served in a lovely garden setting with overhead cover. This is not to be missed to see South Africa’s internationally acclaimed treasures in a wonderful organic setting, before they leave for their European tour of the UK, France, Italy and the Netherlands. After over a decade of writing, recording and touring together, Nibs van der Spuy and Guy Buttery have finally recorded their first ever collaborative album. Following an extremely successful string of launches in South Africa, these internationally renowned guitarists will be touring their brand new show through Europe and the UK accompanied by the release of their debut duo album “In the Shade of the Wild Fig”.

These two virtuosos collaborated on a series of shows in the early and mid-2000’s before their respective careers took off, both locally and internationally, with rigorous individual touring schedules. Their performing paths crossed at a major festival in Toulouse, France, and this inspired a new combination of performances and sowed the seed for doing a full length album together. “In The Shade of the Wild Fig” showcases their mutual interest and deep love for world music and different folk movements featuring numerous instruments such as the cuatro, mbira, tampura, sitar and various acoustic guitars.

Guy has recently been featured in the world’s biggest selling guitar magazine ‘Guitar Player’ which saw him performing at leading guitar festivals throughout Europe, Australia and the US. He has also just picked up 3 national awards including the esteemed SAMA Award for ‘Best Instrumental Album’. In the same vein, Nibs has become a highly acclaimed guitarist, singer and songwriter, being featured in leading publications from France’s ‘Liberation’ to the UK ‘Guardian’. He performs regularly abroad with his biggest support base being in France.
