Hello Everyone,

I trust that you all enjoyed your break with a good time on holiday if you went.  A new Bottleneck season has begun and back in July we played host one of the UK's newer talents (and what a talent he was!) - the young Jay Tamkin.  Thank you to all that showed your support and made it a great evening.  Here is John Cordingley's report:

"It was great to see such a young artist tread the boards of our club.  I did not know what to expect from this young man from Devon but my fears were dispelled after the first couple of numbers when his talent started to shine through. He is managed by Chris Farlow?s manager and writes most of his songs and in fact wrote all the numbers on his new CD ?Alibi? which he played for us during the evening. He played his Strat for most of the performance but on one number he played his special Flying V type of guitar on his lap and on the floor in open tuning with some very nice percussion effects and harmonics. Rick the keyboard player did an outstanding job playing some nice solo work and continuous bass with his left hand, he was assisted by Jay for one of the numbers swapping the treble and bass lines between them. Nick on the drums was very professional and gave a nice drum solo and, right at the end part the second set, all three of the band joined together on the drum set and played a solo, it was really good entertainment. Thanks to all the members that turned up which made the evening enjoyable and for supporting the raffle even though ?Ted?s ? table keep on winning. Look forward to seeing you all again on 25th September for Lee Sanky same time same place.  John"

Thanks John and also to Terry and Sandra for the usual professionalism in carrying out the evenings duties.

So, to this month, where we have something rather special, being the return of Lee Sankey to the stage after a circa 8 year absence.  Lee is one of this country's great blues products and renowned as one of the UK's finest blues harp players.  There is no mistaking this and I have seen him perform several times myself.  He is also one of the most creative of blues artists, however, in his own words, for this gig, he just wants to get together with his friends and play us "some great blues".  A mouth watering line-up accompanies Lee with his harmonicas, being Sam Hare (guitar/vocals), Joe Glossop (piano), Rob Porknoy (drums), Jamie Lawrence (bass) and also on guest vocals the wonderful Dave Migden, who performed on Lee's first album.

This is really is not to be missed and is probably the only gig that Lee will do this year, so a rare opportunity to see him.

That's Lee Sankey and Friends on Tuesday 25th September.  Tickets ?10, doors 7.30pm, band on stage 8.45pm, good food reasonably priced available to eat at your table.  Further information, future gigs and location map available at www.bottleneckblues.com.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Many thanks.
