logo for emailThe Next Session ( Friday May 10th) On Friday we complete our spring run of stateside artists when we welcome Woody Pines and his combo...also called Woody Pines ....to the Oyster Stores. I have the stage plot for their Celtic Connections performance here and it gives you a clue to the type of music we can expect...trumpet, sax, guitar, upright bass, banjo ....and washboard . Yes its going to be a bit of rockabilly, ragtime, country blues, mountain music...... These guys are the real deal. Woody is a roots musician who has been inspired by rough street jugbands, blues singers' 78's, and dusty and forgotten rockabilly singles. He started out with the Kitchen Syncopators a street performance jugband from Oregon that also included Gill Landry of Old Crow Medicine Show, before moving to North Carolina and going solo. These days he fronts this combo which has been getting a reputation as one of the most entertaining acts on the Americana circuit.

Have a look and listen...This is the link to the band's live performance that was broadcast from Glasgow Royal Concert Hall for BBC Radio Scotland's Travelling Folk show during this year's Celtic Connections festival, where they played to a crowd of 1000 at Glasgow's legendary Old Fruitmarkethttp://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0144vp3

More of the boys in action recently here.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcMR9GcQjTk

Previously... Thanks to everyone who made JT and Ali feel so welcome. I think the general consensus was that Birds of Chicago is another winning combination from this talented bunch. And we would like to thank them for introducing us to the very talented Mr Peter Mulvey..he has certainly returned home with a few new fans. Lovely review in the Gazette..think Debbie Neech was spot on when she wrote that:-

"When the Birds of Chicago opened their set with a stunning version of Nobody Wants To Be Alone, Nobody Wants to Die, you could almost see little Holy Moly thought bubbles emerging above the heads of the entire audience"

..I think I saw them !!! ... the full review is on a our website http://www.whitstablesessions.co.uk/reviews.html

Coming soon.. after all the new bookings I told you about last time I was a bit worried there would be no news left. But no, we have two exciting new additions to the line up. We have managed to persuade Blue Rose Code to return and open for Mary Coughlan.  Ross has just released his first album "North Ten" and is going from strength to strength ...managed to squeeze us in a very busy summer tour. Think he's off to Cambridge after us. If you haven't caught him before then have a listen, he really is a very talented performer and songwriter...he's also a big tweeter..... _at_BlueRoseCode .. follow him and get to hear all his new songs as he writes them . Have a listen to ?Julie', his first single off the new album.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Phi8UmvtWWI..wow.

And then in October, even though we already have The Wiyos and Devon Sproule we couldn't say no to a request from Iain Matthews . Just Iain and his guitar this time...Hope you'll agree this was too good to resist . Think that's us pretty much full for 2013 now.
