From: Angela Brown:
Date: 10 May 2013

Subject: Barn dance band needed 7th September

Hi Penny

I was given your details by Mark of Kate's Kitchen Band. I am trying to arrange a barn dance at the Hassocks Hotel on 7th September for my 50th birthday.

Mark suggested you might be able to send a request for availability to several bands. I would really appreciate your help.

Many thanks
Angela

2. CALL OUT

Wedding barndance/ceilidh +++. Ryash.October '13 KENT

From: Hannah Johnson:
Date: 12 May 2013
Subject: Ceilidh

Dear Penny,

It was suggested to me to contact your organisation to ask if you or your members could help us with our query so I hope I am going about this the right way!

We are getting married on 5th October this year Near Maidstone (Ryarsh) and we are really keen to book a band with caller so we can have a barn dance/ceilidh at the reception in the evening.  The ideal scenario would be for the band to follow up the dancing with some more modern tunes instead of a disco but we realise this might not be possible.

Kind regards,
Hannah (and Tom)

Please respond direct to Hanna, as usual. Thank you, 1d

New VA Briefings on online Gift Aid and Charitible Incorporated Organisations

We have recently published two new VA Briefings - one how to claim Gift Aid online and the other on the new Charitible Incorporated Organisation form:

159 - Online Gift Aid and the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme

Since we published Briefing 135 - Gift Aid and tax-effective giving, in June 2010, a number of changes have been made to Gift Aid, including the ability to claim online and the new Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme (GASDS). This Briefing, to be read in conjunction with Briefing 135, provides details of these changes.

160 - Charitable Incorporated Organisations

Now that the option register your voluntary arts group as a ?Charitable Incorporated Organisation' (CIO) has been introduced, many charities and voluntary groups in Scotland, England and Wales welcome the new structure, as it will help reduce their administrative burdens and provide other benefits - but it may not be suitable for all groups/organisations.

VA Briefings are now part of Voluntary Arts' Running Your Group online information and training service. To access the Briefings, along with a range of other useful resources, please visit www.voluntaryarts.org/runningyourgroup and sign up to one of our four subscription levels. Level One - which gives you access to all our Briefings - is completely free.

 Deregulation of the Licensing Act

A draft order that will remove the need for entertainment licences for most plays, dance and indoor sport, has been laid before Parliament by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). The order is the first part of the implementation of the Licensing Act deregulation package announced earlier in the year.

Provided that Parliament gives consent, the order will deregulate, between the hours of 8am and 11pm, performances of plays and exhibitions of dance for audiences of up to 500 people.

The order should come into force during the summer and is expected to remove significant costs and administrative burdens from many creative groups.  In the meantime, those organising these kinds of events should continue to discuss arrangements with local Licensing Authorities in the usual way.

From: Janet Dowling:

Subject: Storytelling workshops in the autumn - Feedback needed

Hi Folks

Surrey Storytellers Guild are just finalising the programme for the autumn, and would like some feedback from you.

Last November we had the wonderful Katrice Horsley come to tell stories, and give a workshop. Unfortunately we had to cancel the workshop at short notice as a number of people with drew due to illness at the last moment, and it wasn't viable to run the workshop.

We have invited Katrice back for September this year. We would love to ask her to run the workshop again. We have changed the month to hopefully avoid the colds and flu that caught up with participants last time, but it would be helpful to get an idea of how many people might be interested in taking part. Don't worry - you wont be committing yourself until you hand over the money, but it would be helpful to know as September can be a busy time of the year.

The theme is the "Three Streams of story"
Katrice will help you focus on which parts of the body we inhabit - the heart, the head, and the groin to provide the intellect, love and passion of story - and how that affects our physicality while we are telling stories!

It is for experienced storytellers- ie you have a story to tell if needed in the workshop.

Plus how many people may want another beginners storytelling workshop?.

So ...

Q1 . Are you interested in the Storytelling workshop with Katrice Horsley if we ran one on Sat Sept 28th?

Q2. Are you interested in a Storytelling BEGINNERS workshop on Sat Nov 23rd ?

Please copy and paste into a reply, and send it back to me!   janettells_at_gmail_dot_com

many thanks
