3. GLEANINGS from VAE
New VA Briefings on online
Gift Aid and Charitible Incorporated Organisations
We
have recently published two new VA Briefings - one how to claim Gift
Aid online and the other on the new Charitible Incorporated Organisation
form:
159 - Online Gift Aid and the Gift Aid Small Donations
Scheme
Since
we published Briefing 135 - Gift Aid and tax-effective giving, in June
2010, a number of changes have been made to Gift Aid, including the ability
to claim online and the new Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme (GASDS). This
Briefing, to be read in conjunction with Briefing 135, provides details of
these changes.
160 - Charitable Incorporated Organisations
Now
that the option register your voluntary arts group as a ?Charitable
Incorporated Organisation' (CIO) has been introduced, many charities and
voluntary groups in Scotland, England and Wales welcome the new structure,
as it will help reduce their administrative burdens and provide other
benefits - but it may not be suitable for all groups/organisations.

Deregulation of the Licensing Act
A
draft order that will remove the need for entertainment licences for most
plays, dance and indoor sport, has been laid before Parliament by the Department for Culture, Media
and Sport (DCMS). The order is the first part of the implementation
of the Licensing Act deregulation package announced earlier in the
year.
Provided
that Parliament gives consent, the order will deregulate, between the hours
of 8am and 11pm, performances of plays and exhibitions of dance for
audiences of up to 500 people.
The
order should come into force during the summer and is expected to remove
significant costs and administrative burdens from many creative
groups. In the meantime, those organising these kinds of events
should continue to discuss arrangements with local Licensing Authorities in
the usual way.
