ANNOUNCEMENT
Vic celebrated his 70th birthday earlier this year. This year also marks the 50th year since he became involved in running folk clubs starting with the one at his college. Tina and Vic started running weekly folk clubs together in 1966 firstly in South London and then from 1968 in the Brighton and Lewes areas. For the last 23 years they have been the mainstays of this club at the Royal Oak.
Although the club continues to thrive and this year has seen some tremendous nights at the Royal Oak, the end of 2013 seems to them both to be a good time to call it a day. At the moment there would seem to be no obvious successors to take over from them.
For our part, we would like to thank the very many people who have supported us over the years.
HERE IS OUT PROGRAMME FOR THE REST OF 2013:-
Nov 7th * £7.00 * THE YOUNG’ UNS
The trio of Sean Cooney, David Eagle and Michael Hughes is one of the most exciting new young acts to hit the folk scene in years. Great singers and musicians, they are also a lot of fun!
Nov 14th * £7.00 * DEBS NEWBOLD & LAUREL SWIFT
These superb young performers will be presenting “Under Her Skin”, an epic tale, a modern twist, two voices, four feet and eight strings. – "theatre meets storytelling meets comedy meets folk".
Nov 21st * £7.00 * JODY KRUSKAL
The very talented American concertina player and singer will be giving one of his vibrant and engaging performances. Only 8 appearances on this short British tour.
Nov 28th * £7.00 * MANDY MURRAY with DYLAN HODGSON, ROWAN LUIS, AISLING LYLE & JOY PALEY
With Maggie Boyle indisposed we make a change to our previously advertised programme with Mandy being joined by the young Brighton performers who have brought such vibrancy to their floor spots on previous visits. It is possible that ISSY CARROLL will also be there.
Dec 12th * £7.00 * RATTLE ON THE STOVEPIPE
The trio of Dave Arthur, Pete Cooper & Dan Stewart have been our most regular and popular attractions in recent years. This year, we have them as a Christmas treat.
Dec 19th * Free admission * CHRISTMAS PARTY NIGHT
The evening to include a huge raffle to raise money for the school that Tina & Vic support in The Gambia.
