One third of Show of Hands in the Barn
tomorrow
|
Hello Everybody
Well our February series at the Gulbenkian flew by, and what a way to
end. I knew MacGoldrick McCusker & Doyle would be good, but
nothing can really prepare you for just how good. That has to one
of our best ever concerts I reckon - just breathtaking. Can't
wait to have them back, and John Doyle was a complete revelation and
quite a dish! Can I say that? Oh hec too late
;) It was great to have so many new faces come along
and join us, and thanks to those of you who signed up for
more.... I promise you you won't regret it, it's life enhancing
stuff, should be on the NHS. You're all very welcome and it would
be good to see you at some of our other venues, we only book beautiful
places where the music is going to sound exceptional, and the best musicians,
and we have a lot of fun. It's been super-fun to work with the
Gulbenkian too, they couldn't have been more helpful ... what a
difference that makes. Here's hoping to a long and happy musical
relationship.
A reminder that our next concert is tomorrow night in the Kingston Barn
with Miranda Sykes and Rex Preston. Miranda of course is very
well known to most of you that follow our favourites - Show of
Hands. She has a crystal clear voice and is a fantastic musician
playing stand up bass and guitar. She is joined by Rex on
mandolin, who has to be seen to be believed, a completely natural
player. Add to that great songs and harmonies and stories, and
we're in for a lovely night in the Barn, our first of the new
season. Please take care when parking, remember the people in the
houses prefer if the headlights face away from them, as the car-park is
at bedroom level and the lights can be intrusive.
Still tickets available online at ?13 plus booking fee or on the door
for ?15, but bear in mind there's only 20 left so it might be a good
idea to email or text me to reserve. Miranda came and played in
the Barn in 2005 with her band which included Maartin Allcock, Gareth
Turner and Pete Zorn. It was a fabulous night and sold out - be
great to do the same again nine years later.
Have a listen here.... and for those of
you new to us all booking info is on the website www.folkinthebarn.co.uk

Other News
So who's watching The Voice? Obviously not live as that would
stop you coming out to see fabulous live music ha ha, but maybe catch
it on Iplayer as I often do. If so, you will have seen Sally
Barker progress through the early stages. For those who don't
know Sally, as well as having been around the folk cicuit for many
years she sang 'Captains' with Steve Knightley, on the Show of Hands
album 'Lie of the Land' 1995. You can see her here singing it live at the first Show
of Hands concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Sally has a gorgeous
voice, we're cheering her on and hope a folky can go all the way on
this show. Show the rest of the world what they're missing eh!
There is a relatively new and interactive website
available for the Canterbury district, which is promoting business
offers, local news and events and which can act as a good community
notice board. Canterbury community groups are encouraged to use www.canterbury.towntalk.co.uk to
promote news and events free of charge. Currently there is a free
to enter prize draw, with ?50 to win each month from simply
'subscribing to news'.
