Subject: Fiddle Workshops

Hello

I will be presenting two workshops on Friday 3rd October, covering aspects of my new book ?Exploring Folk Fiddle?.

The event takes place at the Schott offices at 48, Great Marlborough Street, London W1F 7BB between 6 and 9.00 pm. It will be in two parts; the first simple and the second more advanced. The cost is ?5, and this covers one or the other, or both parts. You don?t need to have the book to participate, but it will be available on the night at a special discounted price of ?10.

Beginners to Intermediate. An introduction to some basic tune types; a jig, a reel, hornpipe, polka, strathspey and waltz. Each one will be played (with or without music), with some tips on the style needed to make it sound authentic and ?folky?

Intermediate to advanced. We will look at a few tunes from the book in greater detail, and try out different approaches to bowing and ornamentation. We will cover aspects of ornamentation as rolls, cuts, trebles, slides and drones, and bowing techniques such as slurs, accents and shuffles.
