Saturday 4th October - Kingston Barn
Just under a
week to go till Kieran Goss comes back to play for us in the Kingston
Barn. Kieran and his wife Annie are two of the loveliest, most
genuine people you could ever wish to meet. With that gorgeous Irish
lilting voice, beautiful heart-wrenching songs, and a wicked sense of
humour that wins over everybody in the room, it's no wonder Kieran is
one of Ireland's National Treasures. He's a treasure to us too - we
love him. Half the tickets have pre-sold already but we need to
shift a load more this week, come on all you Kieran fans.....
and give him a try if you haven't seen him before - he's just
lovely.
"One man, one guitar and a voice
sent express mail from heaven."
TIME OUT MAGAZINE
"The sense of
fun is tremendous, the playing first rate and the songs are sheer

IRISH TIMES

songs and really funny between songs. Brilliant"
Then...
Bridie Jackson & The Arbour
Saturday
18th October - Playhouse Whitstable
After releasing
their debut album in 2012 with a sold out show at The Sage Gateshead,
the steady rise of this successful quartet began with them securing
an Arts Council England grant, a live session on Radio 4's Loose Ends
and radio play on BBC 2, 3 and 6 Music. As winners of 2013's
?Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition', the girls beat over 8,000
contenders for the title, and went on to play multiple stages at the
legendary festival.
Bridie Jackson
& The Arbour have won universal acclaim from both music critics
and fans alike, with BBC 6 Music's Tom Robinson naming the band
as a favourite of 2013 and both the Guardian and Telegraph newspapers
lauding them with praise.
Celebrated for both their unusual instrumentation, and
intriguing harmonies - Bridie Jackson & The Arbour are frequently
proclaimed to be completely unique, blending influences as diverse as
gospel, baroque and flamenco, with an infusion of percussion, fiddle,
cello and a lead vocal of spine-tingling beauty.
Their Glastonbury success was swiftly followed by awards from
Help Musicians UK and City Music Foundation, further radio play
across BBC 1, 2, 3 and 6 Music, and sessions for Dermot O' Leary, and
Radio 3's In Tune programme, ensuring 2013 finished as 2014 means to go
on.
This is one of
those - you may not have heard of them, but just come and see....
they haven't acheived all that above for nothing.
You can book online and choose your
seats here.... or
ring the box office - Open from Monday to
Saturday 10am to 12noon. Telephone 01227 272042. Again not many
sold yet - this needs to change big time, this will be a wonderful
evening... I've seen them, they give you goosebumps!
Random Youtube comments...."I saw
them in Berwick last night. Impossible to categorise - clever,
sophisticated songs, delicate and intricate four part harmonies,
Fiddle, cello, guitar, keyboard , rhythm box (whatever it's called),
bell plates - new to me - and a delightful stage presence. I haven't
enjoyed an evening's music so much in a long time."
"Guys, I recently have discovered your music. Is one of
the must beautiful sound that I ever heard. Thank you for share it
with the world :)"
Terry &
Gerry
(ColvinQuarmby
fans - don't miss!)
Wednesday 29th October - St Georges Centre, Canterbury
Christ Church Uni
Remember the outrageous fun and
energy of the ColvinQuarmby gigs we hosted at FitB? Voted best
act at Cropredy in 2009 and Best Live Act in the Hancock Awards, the
eccentric unpredictability of Gerry Colvin, combined with some of the
best songwriting you'll ever hear, meant Gerry Colvin was and still
is one of the most entertaining entertainers I've ever met.
Well way back yonder before the
ColvinQuarmby years - were the Terry & Gerry years.
Picked out by John Peel from a box of demos, Peel totally 'got'
the band, and supported them with sessions followed by Old Grey
Whistle Test appearances, The Tube and more than one Number 1 in the
Indie charts.
The live shows were something
else - crazy, brilliant, fun, but above all full of their amazing
songs, searingly observant snapshots of everyday life in their own
breakneck cow-punk skiffle style. For 30 years Terry & Gerry fans
have been waiting for this reunion, I thought it would never happen
and now we have one of the concerts here in the centre of Canterbury.
If you have time, watch an ITV documentary about them HERE
I wonder if they'll be as fast!! Can't wait to see Gerry
again, it's been too long.
