1. Call out for new Editor of the Folk Diary
Jim Marshall is retiring from tFD - the Folk Dairy - and is,
therefore, looking for someone to continue his good work ...
Circular
sent by Jim Marshall -
"I know my youthful looks belie the fact, but I've been involved, with
Vic Smith, in producing the Folk Diary for 45 years now and although I
still have most of my faculties intact, I have to admit that even I can't
keep going forever and need to look to the future.
What
started out as the Brighton Folk Diary, later to become the Sussex Folk
Diary and ended up with its current title has progressed through a
multitude of technical changes.
In the
early pre-computer days it was a case of typewriter and Letraset held
together with Cow Gum - an early, literal form of the term "cut and paste".
Nowadays it's a comparatively simple task, enabling me to send all the
completed artwork down the line to our London-based printer, sit back and
await for the completed magazine to arrive ready for distribution. No
longer do we have to press-gang friends into helping collate and staple all
the pages together, even if those stapling sessions were fun!
The
main reason for this missive is to explore the possibility of there being
someone out there with time on their hands who fancies taking over from me
in the future whilst Vic continues to be responsible for distribution.
That
person would obviously need to be computer literate, have a decent knowledge
of desktop publishing and have the patience of a saint in dealing with
those, thankfully few, advertisers who have no understanding of the term
"copy date"!
If
the idea appeals to you, of if you know someone who might fancy taking
over, please email me or Vic.
