Weekly
News
Fiddlefit // Rhonda & The Great
Unknown // Kaz Simmons Trio
Good day to you all! We bring news from the
revolving doors of The Lighthouse.
Firstly,
I'd like to bring your attention to a special ticketed event we have
on the horizon.
Some of you may have experienced the drumming whirlwind that is Asaf
Sirkis as he has accompanied Gilad Atzmon at his last two Lighthouse
dates.
Now Asaf is bringing his own project to our stage.
The Sirkis/Bialas Quartet
Saturday
15th November
Tickets ?10 in advance available behind the bar and online HERE.
(tickets ?12 on the door, subject to availability)
Asaf Sirkis is a hugely respected player on the UK's scene - a
brilliantly versatile drummer and percussionist whose multi- layered
influences lend a special air to his music. A leader in his own
right, Sirkis' playing has been a crucial component to the work of
players like Gilad Atzmon, Nicolas Meier and Tim Garland.
This latest project is a collaboration with Polish vocalist Sylwia
Bialas, and despite taking its inspiration from a similarly broad
range of sources as his previous groups, the music they produce has
its own identity. Bialas sings in Polish and adds her own distinctive
touch to the proceedings, as contemporary jazz sounds are deftly
mixed with melodic and rhythmic ideas from the Middle East and India
as well as from European classical and folk traditions. The group is
touring to support the release of their debut recording in November
2014.
Sylwia Bialas - vocals/compositions
Asaf Sirkis - drums/compositions
Frank Harrison - piano
Patrick Bettison - electric bass/harmonica

Friday 7th
Novmber
Fiddlefit
Pub open
from 5pm // Live music from 8:30pm
Fiddlefit are Judith, playing fiddle, and Bill on
guitar using vocals and melody to conjure up a wide range of folk
based music, ranging from trad. English to Cajun and Celtic via the
Steppes of Russia!
Judith's musical journey started, like most fiddle players, with a
classical training before settling into a long spell on the barn
dance circuit finally teaming up with Bill to express her
effervescent personality on the lead instrument. Bill, on the other
hand, started out as a drummer with various pop outfits before
discovering a passion for folk/rock and switching to guitar to
provide the engine room backing for Judith's soaring fiddle. Also
ready to call Ceilidh dances with their band The Haystack Hoedown
Ceilidh Band.

Saturday
8th November
Rhonda
& The Great Unknown
Pub open
from 12pm // Live music from 8:30pm
Free Entry
Rhonda and The Great Unknown play a pretty cool blend or
foot-stomping, provocative original songs and groovy-eclectic
covers.
She's a Louisiana woman singing songs she wrote, all of which are
composed by Ritchie Swann, the tall man from Surrey usually playing
piano? but he plays bass/guitar/mandoline/banjo/clarinet or
saxophone just as beautifully. Accompanied by his
folksy-funky-rockabilly band, The Great Unknown.
The band has been focused on rehearsing the soundtrack for a movie
and childrens television series. Original, eclectic, funky and fun.
This is a seriously great band.

Sunday 9th
November
'Sunday
Service'
feat.
Kaz Simmons Trio
Pub open
from 12pm // Music from 4pm
Free
Entry
Kaz
Simmons Trio
New Trio featuring Martin Kolarides (electric guitar) and Kit
Massey (violin/keys).
Of 'Signs', Kaz's fourth album:
Incorporating influences as diverse as progressive rock and musical
theatre, the result is Kaz's bravest and most arresting work to
date; an album that is far reaching yet coherent and a sound that
is entirely unique yet absorbing and accessible.
Unlike the haunting intimacy of third album, Dandelions, Signs
gives freer reign to the rest of Kaz's band. Will Bartlett's organ
pulses through the mix, Martin Kolarides's reverb-soaked guitar
swims and wails through mesmerising atmospherics and the
irresistibly groovy rhythm section of Riaan Vosloo on bass and Tim
Giles on drums holds everything together with a light but confident
touch.
Plus ?. We are pleased to announce the inclusion of the Reggae Roast!
Delicious tastes of the Caribbean mixed with the traditional
English roast dinner, at an incredible price of ?7.50! Chef Tyrone
will be serving you from 12pm. Relax and eat while enjoying some
reggae tunes at a volume that is proven to aid digestion and
stimulate taste buds.
This is to be a regular fixture as part of our weekly ?Sunday
Service'. Leave the cooking to Tyrone and join us here!
