Subject: FOLK AT THE DRUM (FATD) GUEST NIGHT 14 MAY 2014 - MARTIN CURTIS - DEATH AND FUNERAL OF (DON WYSIWYG) THOMPSON

Good Morning All,

A quick reminder of the two items in the subject line.

I am really looking forward to having Martin at FATD having met hm on Armistice Day 2013 by the War Memorial in Wanaka South Island  https://www.google.co.uk/maps/_at_-44_dot_501544,168_dot_3842377,9z

Anyone who would like a floor spot please let me know.

Martin Curtis, New Zealand Singer and Songwriter, lives in Cardrona in the foothills of the Southern Alps, a place that has become the inspiration behind much of his music.

He has been writing and singing songs about his adopted country for over 30 years, and has recorded and released 10 albums, many of them celebrating New Zealand and the people who helped make it what it is today. He has toured extensively nationally and internationally - particularly in the United Kingdom - as well as Australia, Hong Kong, Austria, Norway and even Nepal.

Don Thompson died on 19 April 2015, the notification on Facebook of his funeral is set out below and all are welcome to both the crematorium and the Good Intent afterwards.

I was so sad to hear of the death of Don (WYSIWYG) Thompson, I was always pleased to see both him and Winnie when they made the trek down to the White Hart Folk Club in Hythe or Crabble Mill Folk Nights when I ran both venues. Don's contribution to the evening was always thoroughly well appreciated, usually funny, sometimes serious, and always very well crafted. I was always appreciative of the distance he and Winnie were prepared to travel to take part. I think he did make one appearance at Folk At The Drum during my stewardship after September 2007 but lately I have been pleased to read, and support, his common sense postings on facebook when he was prepared to be counted by inserting a dose of reality to ongoing conversations. He will be sorely missed in the folk family as well as his own. Our deepest sympathy to Winnie and her family, I should not leave out my thanks for Winnie's contributions through her poems either. I always remember his wonderful song about Winnie's handbag which he maintained hid two German Soldiers who didn't know that the war had finished!!

Don's family would like to inform you that his funeral will be on 15th May at 1:30pm at Medway Crematorium (Blue Bell Hill).
This will be followed by a celebration of his life, at the Good Intent Pub in Rochester.
We would love for anyone who would like to, to bring their instruments and send him off in the way that he would have wanted.
We would really appreciate some idea of who will be able to attend in order to organise the buffet.

Winnie, Pauline and Martin. x

Best regards

David
