Good morning to you all! We bring news from
the revolving doors of The Lighthouse.
Firstly, in case you missed it, or have been in and was wondering
about the new artwork on the walls. We have been displaying the
amazing record sleeve art of Roslaw Szaybo.
The exhibition is to run till the 6th of September, and there
is still time to by signed prints here at The Lighthouse!
'Hello Sailor'

A collection of art work by the prolific polish designer Roslaw
Szaybo
Roslaw Szaybo, the legendary Creative Director of CBS Records whose
tenure spanned 1974 - 1988 designing covers for such artists as Miles
Davis, The Clash, Elton John, Santana and many more.
Iconic images he created from this period are exhibited along with
posters designed for London Zoo, Almeida, Sadler's Wells Theatre, and
Polish Jazz Festivals.
He has won many awards for his posters and record cover designs both
in Poland and internationally, his work being exhibited throughout
Europe and The States.
The exhibition also features a selection of maritime inspired
eccentric pieces, hence the exhibition title, 'Hello Sailor'. These
are also proving very popular!

The band melds elements of American Old-time and
Bluegrass with British and Irish traditional songs, with an
originality and playfulness to their arrangements that establish
them as something unique and not so easily defined.
Their rich instrumentation comprises double bass, fiddles, banjo,
guitar, wooden flute and strong vocals often working together in
harmony.

This wondrous band reveals influences from early
20th century jazz, vaudeville blues, rag-time and north Indian
classical music, led by the stunning vocals of singer Louisa
Jones whose voice is like a soothing baritone wisp, captivating
you in her velvety yet raw and warm range of blues infused
melodies. This combined with the Roma gypsy sound of the
Accordion, Ewan Bleach's hypnotic and virtuosic clarinet
playing, the punchy rhythms of legendary Dakota Jim on double
bass makes for an enchanting musical blend.

Desert
Planes are a London based guitar band, with an
Americana flavour. Formed by Tom Farrer (Lead Vocals / Rhythm
Guitar) and Ben Niblett (Drums / Backing Vocals), the duos musical
approach to strong melodies, attacking beats and swaying riffs
result in a melancholic soundscape with a euphoric punch.
Support on the night comes from Joel Williamson. He is an
arresting and engaging singer/songwriter also from London whose
original songs take inspiration from artists such as Bob Dylan,
Ryan Adams and Townes Van Zandt.
PLUS JUST ADDED! Mimi O'Halloran Band
Mimi will perform her original eccentric soul and folk inspired
music with a band that features David Hatton on bass and Stewart
Hughes on drums.

Mampama
They are a four piece African fusion band playing an uplifting
mixture of songs and tunes from West and South Africa. With a love
of Highlife music, and especially palm-wine style guitar, the
crisscross rhythms are the foundation for this band's tight sound.
Expect joyful, easy listening music guaranteed to make you dance.
Plus ?. We are pleased to
announce the inclusion of the Reggae Roast! Delicious
tastes of the Caribbean mixed with the traditional English roast
dinner, at an incredible price of ?7.50! Chef Tyrone will be
serving you from 12pm. Relax and eat while enjoying some reggae
tunes at a volume that is proven to aid digestion and stimulate
taste buds.
