We had an excellent time in Canada earlier this month, and send big thanks to audiences and presenters for their welcome and enthusiasm. Generally we can only make it across every second or third year, so it's a real pleasure to catch up with our many friends there in the world of music, particularly at Edmonton Folk Festival. Special thanks to the chums in Kelowna BC who at short notice rustled up enough equipment for us to play a show in the backyard of the Blind Rooster Berry Farm while we were passing through!

Western Canada can have some dramatic weather - at Salmon Arm Roots & Blues Festival we were hit with a spectacular electrical storm; other days we fried. A shout out to Chinese/Mongolian folk-rockers Hanggai, with whom we did what turned out to be a pretty remarkable joint set at Canmore Folk Festival, jamming on each others' songs - not recorded, alas. St James' Hall in Vancouver was another high point, we've never known an audience there so "up"?

After which we have a few good UK festivals left to play this year:

Sat 29 August SHREWSBURY FOLK FESTIVAL shrewsburyfolkfestival.co.uk (at the time of writing there are less than 50 weekend tickets left and no day tickets at all)

First John, Alan & Ian are performing as Oysters3 - just the three of them, acoustically, presenting songs from all periods of their career but also the stories behind the songs. That's at 1.00pm in the Sabrina Marquee. An Oysters3 tour follows - see below.

Then the full current 6-piece Oysterband and 3 of its alumni, Ray "Chopper" Cooper, Lee Partis and James O'Grady, are coming together at 10.00pm in the Main Marquee for an "Oysterband Special", almost certainly a unique occasion, the only time a 9-piece historic Oysterband will ever share a stage.

And finally John Jones & The Reluctant Ramblers will launch John's new solo album Never Stop Moving [Westpark Music 87277] on Sun 30th August.

Official release date is Friday 4th September. There are 11 tracks, 8 songs by John and 3 traditional ones, and the album features his regular Reluctant Ramblers - Benji Kirkpatrick, Lindsey Oliver, Tim Cotterell, Rowan Godel, Boff Whalley and Al Scott - plus a few contributions from other Oysterband members.

Also new at the online shop are Oysterband nickel badges (pins, if you're across the pond), with our favourite ?Running Man' motif. The last time we stocked them was at least 20 years ago. We found one on an old leather jacket the other day (sigh...) and couldn't resist bringing them back. They're a bit more expensive now, but the design is updated and the quality much better.

Before and after Denmark come dates for Oysters3. This tour may or may not be a one-off, who knows? But it's good craic anyway, so let's see how it goes...
