Our first Magna Carta event, supported by Magna Carta 800, will take place next Wednesday.

 

Find out more about the importance of this historic document and celebrate the rediscovery of the Sandwich Magna Carta and Charter of the Forest with us!

 

 

16th September 2015, 8pm    The Jury Room, Sandwich Guildhall

FREE LECTURE on Magna Carta

A free public lecture with key academics from the Magna Carta Project: Prof Nicholas Vincent (University of East Anglia) who instigated the search for the Sandwich charters, and Prof Louise Wilkinson (Canterbury Christ Church University) whose current research includes the role of women in the politics of the age.

Doors open 7.30pm. Refreshments available.

 

 

3rd October, various times during the day  Sandwich Guildhall Forecourt

FREE STREET THEATRE from the Robin Hoodeners

The Robin Hoodeners will bring their interactive folk theatre to Sandwich. Enjoy the exploits of England?s favourite outlaw performed by this lively troupe of players. Based on early Robin Hood tales and traditions, with live music. Suitable for adults and children.

 

16th October 2015, 8pm        St Mary?s Arts Centre, Sandwich

CONCERT: Robbers, Rebels and Royals with Joglaresa and Nick Hennessey

With harp, fidel, percussion, bagpipes and voices, early music stars Joglaresa perform songs that challenge the supreme authority of kings, criticise the Roman Curia, and highlight the lives, loves, imprisonment and taxation of ordinary folk at the time of Magna Carta. They will be joined by harp-playing, folk-singing storyteller extraordinaire Nick Hennessey for a lively programme featuring tales of Robin Hood, King John, outlaws, rebels, social justice and injustice - all interwoven with Joglaresa's electrifying song.

Doors open 7.30pm. Licensed bar.
