Tenterden Folk Festival 2016
Thursday 29th September to Sunday 2nd Ocotber 2016

Plans for this year's festival are already well advanced.  The guest list reads a bit like a who's who of the real folk scene and includes many old friends such as The Claque, Jim Mageean and Graeme Knights, Keith Kendrick and Sylvia Needham, Nick Dow, Pete Castle, Steve Turner and local barn dance band The Tonic with caller Keith Leech.  We are very pleased to welcome back by popular demand Scolds Bridle who visited Tenterden for the visit time last year.  On the guest list for the first time this year are Phil Hare, and Mike Wilson and Damien Barber.  Guests appearing on the free music stage or in showcase events in pubs and other venues will include Ashford Folk Band, Dennis Holmes, Direction Corsairs (our friends from Belgium), Earwig Corner, Endless Knot, The Invicta Ukulele Club Band and The United Folk Orchestra.  In addition there will of course be all our regular and local guests including Adrian O, Bob Kenward, Chris Roche, Gavin and Julie Atkin, Malcolm Ward, Mark Gibson, Marsh Warblers, Morrigan, Peter Collins, Roger Resch, Spare Parts, Sue Watson and Lizzie Stephens, Travelling Folk and Vic and Tina Smith.

Dance sides already confirmed include Boughton Morris, Dacre Morris, East Kent Mixed Morris, Kent Korkers and Pork Scratchin's, Kits Koty Morris, Mad Jack's Morris, Priory Morris, Royal Liberty Morris, Sompting Village Morris, Wolfshead and Vixen Morris plus many more still to be confirmed.

MIKE WILSON & DAMIEN BARBER
Mike and Damien are two of the finest exponents of traditional folk song on the UK folk scene and between them they have over 40 years experience of performing at folk venues.  Damien was raised in Norfolk and heavily influenced by such earlier Norfolk singers as Walter Pardon and Peter Bellamy. Damien is a stylish and distinctive singer, either unaccompanied or when using guitar or concertina. Although he has lived for a long time in West Yorkshire he still retains a strong East Anglian identity.
Mike is the youngest member of the Wilson Family who are well known on the folk scene right across the country. The Wilsons are a Teeside family of powerful singers who have raised the rafters at many festival and folk clubs.  Mike's musical heritage is emphatically that of the rural and industrial North East of England and includes both traditional and modern folk songs. Damien and Mike, with their rich shared repertoire of traditional songs plus the work of the more modern folk writers such as Pete Bellamy, Ewan MacColl and Mike Waterson, where nominated as best duo in the 2010 BBC Radio Two Folk Awards. We are thrilled to have them at Tenterden.
