- We're starting
a new venture: chorus singing at the friendly West End
Tavern in Marden on the first Wednesday of the month - and the
first one is on the 2nd March from 8pm.
- The aim is to get
together, have a couple of drinks and to sing a couple of
hours' worth of songs you probably already know - folk songs,
community songs, songs we may have learned at school in the
1950s and 60s (if that's your age!), parodies and even pop songs
- We think they should
be unaccompanied - but what they should have in common is
mighty, singable choruses or refrains!
- What I'd like is for
you to get in touch with me at gmatkin_at_gmail_dot_com
if you would like to sing. If a few of you
can volunteer to sing the verses of a couple of
suitable songs each, then I can figure out the
programme and print out sheets of the choruses for
everyone to sing from (I'm thinking we should start with
It's a Long Way to Tipperary and finish with The Parting
Glass and Good Night Irene, if that's any guide... )
- (This does mean that
the song workshops will have cease for the time being, by the
way.)
- Don't forget -
this month our lovely free last Sunday of the month session
(the 28th, from 8pm) at Frittenden's Bell & Jorrocks pub
features our great friend Bob Kenward, a man who is well known
for his tuneful and well crafted songs, but perhaps not so well
known for another of his great interests, traditional songs...
- Please put THE BIG
SPRING DANCE with the Horsmonden tunes workshop band and caller
Rachel Roberts from 8pm on the 19th March in your diaries. We'll
also have our pals Ollie and Malcolm Woods along to help jolly
the band along... Tickets will be £7 and £4 (usual
concessions). Please bring friends and family to
this lovely friendly evening of dancing and
playing, games, songs and laughter! Email me or ring 07985
522734 for tickets.
