FORTHCOMING GUESTS:
MARCH
1ST – GRANNY’S ATTIC
(http://www.grannysattic.org.uk/)
Granny’s Attic are a trio from Worcester, all still
only in their teens. Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne,
George Sansome and Lewis Wood met at school and really came to notice in 2014
when they were finalists for the BBC Radio2 Young Folk Award. They play a range of English, Irish, and
Scottish traditional music, plus some of their own compositions. Jon Boden commented “great tunes, great
arrangements and great energy” and those of us who’ve seen them at Broadstairs
surely agree.
MARCH 8TH –
WIZZ JONES
(http://www.wizzjones.com/)
Wizz
Jones is a bit of an enigma. He has
busked with Rod Stewart and Alex Campbell.
Eric Clapton, John Renbourn and Ralph McTell call him an important
influence. He enjoyed great success in
the 1970's. Yet in the 80’s he almost
disappeared from view. However, he has
long been a favourite at Dartford and we are delighted that there has been
renewed interest in his music in more recent years.
MARCH
15TH – 4SQUARE
(http://www.4squaremusic.co.uk/)
4Square is a hugely talented group of young musicians, 3 of
whom have reached the later stages of BBC Young Musician or Young Folk
Awards. They are: Nicola Lyons
(fiddle, clogs, vocals), Michael Giverin (mandolin, guitar), Daniel
Day (percussion, piano, vocals) and Jim Molyneux (piano, accordion,
vocals). Their music is original,
distinctive and beautifully arranged.
They have become a firm favourite at Broadstairs Folk Week and took Fairport's 2009
Cropredy Convention by storm.
MARCH
22ND – PETER KNIGHT’S GIGSPANNER
(http://www.gigspanner.com/)
Led
by Steelye Span’s legendary fiddle player Peter Knight, the trio Gigspanner
have been critically acclaimed for both their live playing and recordings since
first coming together in 2008. Peter’s
virtuosity is ably matched by the sensitive and flawless playing of Roger Flack
(guitar) and Vincent Salzfaas (percussion).
Together their music is wide ranging, drawing from a variety of cultural
influences as well as traditional folk and their improvisation gives a
freshness and immediacy to their act.
MARCH
29TH – EDDIE WALKER
(http://www.folkmusic.net/eddiewalker/)
Eddie Walker comes from the North East and
has been a regular guest at Dartford Folk Club for many years. He has won awards for his song writing, but
his repertoire is much wider than just his own songs and embraces a wide range
of different genres including old country blues, rags, hillbilly,
original songs and instrumentals. Eddie
is an impressive guitar picker and an irrepressible entertainer!
