3RD ? JEZ LOWE & THE BAD PENNIES
(http://www.jezlowe.com/band/)
Jez
Lowe, a long-time favourite at Dartford, is famous for his songs about the
mining culture and people of the North East.
Fairport Convention, Tannahill Weavers, The Black Family, The Dubliners
and Cherish the Ladies are among the many who have covered his work. The Bad Pennies are Kate Bramley on fiddle
and vocals, Andy May on pipes, whistles, piano and accordion and David de la
Haye on bass. It?s always a great
evening?s entertainment, so don?t be late!
MAY 10TH ?
COLUM SANDS
(http://www.columsands.com/)
Colum Sands, a member of the
internationally renowned Sands family from County Down, first established his
reputation as a singer songwriter in 1981.
He has a gift for breaking down
cultural barriers through eloquent words and music and many other
artists have covered his songs, including Roy Bailey, Billy Connolly, Maddy
Prior and June Tabor. Colum is also a
naturally witty raconteur ? come and enjoy!
MAY
17TH ? CARDBOARD FOX
(http://www.cardboardfox.co.uk/)
Winners of the 2015 Spiral Earth Award for Best Debut, Cardboard Fox are an exciting new 4-piece band. All four have their roots in bluegrass, but their collective influences reach much further and this shows in their music. Formed in 2013, this will be their first visit to Dartford, although one half of the band is already well known to us - the Carrivick Sisters, on guitar/vocals and fiddle/vocals. They are joined by the talented young mandolin player Joe Tozer and John Breese on double bass/harmony vocals. Expect a focus on original songs and an energetic performance.
MAY
24TH ? BRUCE MOLSKY
(http://brucemolsky.com/)
In 1995, Bruce
Molsky took a year off from his job to see if he could make a career as a
musician. Today, he is one of the greatest
virtuosos among old-time fiddlers. He performs with the likes of Donal Lunny, Andy Irvine
and Aly Bain and was featured on TV in Transatlantic Sessions 3 and 5. Bruce shows deep emotion in his singing and
brings a mixture of virtuosity and humility to his stage performances in a way
that captivates audiences. He was a big
hit on previous visits to Dartford!
MAY
31ST ? STEVE ASHLEY
(http://www.steveashley.co.uk/)
Steve Ashley began singing folk songs in
1961 and was a founder of Maidstone Folk Club in 1964. He then came to wider attention with his
award-winning album ?Stroll On? and was lead singer in the original Albion
Country Band. He has since worked in
various line-ups, as well as solo, and is renowned for his songs, which
have been recorded by many leading artistes, including Fairport, Phil Beer and
Martin Simpson.
