Andy Irvine
at Walthamstow Folk
Sunday 16
October
Andy is one of the great Irish singers, his voice one of a
handful of truly great ones that gets to the very soul of Ireland. He
has been hailed as "a tradition in himself".
As a musician,
singer and songwriter, Andy has maintained his highly individual
performing skills throughout his 45 year career.
From Sweeney's Men
in the mid 60s, to the enormous success of Planxty in the 70s and then
from Patrick Street to Andy Irvine & D?nal Lunny's Mozaik, Andy has
been a world music pioneer and an icon for traditional music and
musicians.
As a soloist, Andy
fills the role of the archetypal troubadour with a show and a
travelling lifestyle that reflect his lifelong influence, Woody Guthrie.
To quote the Irish
Times, "Often copied, never equalled", his repertoire
consists of Irish traditional songs, dexterous Balkan dances and a
compelling cannon of his own self-penned songs.
This one will be
busy.

A
song for Dick Gaughan
Sunday 6
November
This evening was
originally scheduled for a visit from our pal Dick Gaughan.
Sadly Dick is
suffering from ill health and can't make it.
So instead let's
have a singaround! Bring a song, a tune or a story to share.
Just for fun the
theme for the evening will be Dick himself. Sing one of Dick's songs,
or else choose something you think he would like or that has a
connection with him. It's not compulsory, just if you want to.
If you want to
reserve a song post on the Facebook event at https://www.facebook.com/events/67455044270351
You can buy tickets for future nights online, see links at
website, or pay on the night but remember to be early if doing so.
