  MUSICAL TRADITIONS CLUB Winter 2016

************************************************************************************ FRIDAY 11th NOVEMBER   PETA WEBB and PETE COOPER

(well known duo in the '80s) play a rare gig to celebrate Peta's 70th Birthday. "Peta & Pete sing with power and passion. Peta is admired for her ability to put across the emotional heart of a song and Pete for his brilliant and versatile fiddle playing . Brought together by their shared love of Appalachian and Irish music, their 1986 LP The Heart is True explores the continuity of these traditions," Keith Summers.  "A winning combination of two strong voices and twin fiddles," Maggie Holland, fRoots.  "Tough, straightforward, gutsy and human", Folk On Tap.   When Peta and Pete get together on special occasions the power and passion is still there ! www.petecooper.com

SIMON HINDLEY and KEN HALL join Peta and Pete later for a set of brother duets and old time favourites at this fundraiser for Musical Traditions Club.

With English music from The VALIANT DANCE BAND

Katie Howson (melodeon), Liz Giddings (fiddle), Roger Digby (concertina), Rob Neal (cello) and John Howson (banjo). www.valiantdanceband.info *****************************************************************************

FRIDAY 9th DECEMBER XMAS PARTY A night of Music Hall and Popular song from maestros MIKE HEBBERT and ANDREW FRANK

Mike's staggering mastery of the Jeffries Duet concertina and Andrew's facility with the songs of the Music Hall, Cole Porter, Gershwin and Coward made them a popular duo on the 70s/80s festival circuit .  Mike plays English country dance tunes, reinventions of orchestral classics, Latin American tangos and waltzes as well as the Great American Songbook.  Andrew has a penchant for one-word-per-note comedy songs and also does a pleasing job on more lyrical offerings.

With music from THE PIGEONS (Sarah Crofts, Paul Gross, Paul Quarry) ***********************************************************************************
