FORTHCOMING
GUESTS:
JANUARY 3RD ? RATTLE ON THE STOVEPIPE
(http://www.petecooper.com/rattle.htm)
Dave Arthur
(banjo/guitar/melodeon/percussion/vocals), Pete Cooper (fiddles/vocals) and Dan
Stewart (guitar/banjo) explore
the interwoven worlds of traditional British and Appalachian music. Morris dances flow into their Old Timey
counterparts and 18th century British ballads reappear as Appalachian Mountain
songs. Expect a joyous, foot-tapping
and, at times, sensitive and moving experience.
JANUARY 10TH ? VICKI SWANN & JONNY DYER
(http://www.swan-dyer.co.uk/)
Vicki and Jonny have built a reputation as one
of the best young duos on the folk scene today.
They may also be remembered as two-thirds of the band Serious
Kitchen. Vicki is a superb musician who
plays the Swedish nyckelharpa, Scottish smallpipes and flute. Jonny is a brilliantly inventive
guitarist. Most of their repertoire is
written by Jonny, but very much in a traditional style. It ranges from driving, up-tempo tunes to
soulful airs, with sensitively sung songs for variety.
JANUARY 17TH ? DAVE ELLIS & BOO HOWARD
(http://www.daveandboo.com/)
Dave Ellis & Boo Howard have become firm
favourites at Dartford Folk Club over the years, with Dave?s intricate guitar
work and Boo's mellow vocals combining in a song-writing style all their
own. Dave first made a name for himself
as a leading folk guitarist in the early 1970?s. He plays 6-string and 12-string guitars and a
5-string banjo to a standard that few can match. Boo plays guitar and bass guitar.
JANUARY 24TH ? JOHN PEARSON
(http://johnpearsonblues.com/)
John Pearson continues in the tradition of the early country blues
players who are his inspiration. He has
worked with many of the leading British and American exponents of this
music and has appeared regularly at International Festivals and on national
radio and TV. John has frequently
performed at Dartford and other Kentish venues and his will be a welcome
return.
JANUARY 31ST ? CHURCHFITTERS
(http://www.churchfitters.com/ehome.php)
The Churchfitters is a folk band like no
other. Originally from East Anglia, but
now based in Brittany, Rosie Short, her brother Chris and Boris Lebret are
highly acclaimed virtuoso musicians playing a wide range of instruments,
including homemade ones such as a scrap metal bass. Expect foot-stomping fast fiddle, funk-rock
banjo and traditional melodies all intermixed with exquisite harmonies and
their own original songs. This will be a
high-energy show that?s not to be missed!
