Drive-In
Movie:
Dirty
Dancing
Saturday 20 May, 9.15pm
Gulbenkian, Canterbury
Can you believe
Dirty Dancing is 30 years old? Get your friends together and join us in
celebrating this Oscar-winning feel-good iconic summer love story loved by
generations on the big screen as a drive in movie on Saturday 20 May at
Gulbenkian.
Teenager
“Baby" vacations with her family at Kellerman’s resort in the Catskill
Mountains the summer before going to college. Things are a little
tame until she meets Johnny, the camp's charismatic dance instructor, who
mesmerizes her with his dance moves, his passion and his misunderstood ‘bad
boy’ image. Over the course of the summer, Baby’s hungry eyes are opened to the
responsibilities of adulthood and the prejudices their love brings. But is
Johnny just a fool to believe he has anything she needs? Will they overcome all
to have the time of their life?
Get a group of
friends or the family together and enjoy watching a classic piece of cinematic
history in a ‘drive in’ setting from your car or lounge on one of our deck
chairs in our seating area.
The previous
Drive In screenings of Ghostbusters and Grease that the Gulbenkian hosted were
an immensely successful and it is thrilling to have another one this year. The
event will be held on the Giles Lane Car Park on the University campus opposite
Gulbenkian. To make the experience the best possible, the film will be screened
on an Airscreen – a huge outdoor inflatable screen with dimensions 9m x 5m.
While the seated area will have a sound system, the cars will be able to tune
via an FM frequency on their car radio.
The Gulbenkian
Café will be running burger bar at the screening serving Brogdale Beef burgers
and Halloumi & Portobello mushroom burgers along with a range of snacks.
Drive-In Movie: Dirty Dancing will be at Gulbenkian –
Giles Lane Car Park, on Saturday 20 May. The site opens from 8pm with the main
feature commencing from 9.15pm. Tickets: £25 – limited number of early bird car
tickets at £20 / Deck chair £10. The film is certificate 12A. For more
