Dear All
Many thanks to those who came last week to see the debut at
the club of Catfish. Here is a review:
"Catfish came to the Bottleneck Blues Club tonight for
the first time and I don't think it will be the last after this truly great
performance. They class themselves as a rocking blues band, however, they are a
lot more than that. With the mature line up of the band plus the
young lead guitar player, Matt Long, this is the perfect mix and it was
very hard to find fault as this band gels together so well. The fine
playing of Paul Long on keyboards, who is a very good singer in his own right,
backed by drummer Keven Yates and bass player Dusty Bones (great bluesy name). A
rhythm section that are not in your face, know their job and do it so well. Then
we have Matt Long, one of the best new guitar players on the circuit:
rocky, yes, bluesy, yes, talented, without a doubt! Singing with passion
and heart, he and Paul taking turns and singing great big ballads to heavy
rock. The highlights were too many to mention! Towards the end of
the evening Matt tells a story about his epic song 'Make it Rain'. This
number alone was a reason why there was a queue for their latest CD, Broken
Man. With that large singing voice, fine tender guitar playing and
building up to a great crescendo, this is their very own 'stairway to heaven'. It
blew the cobwebs of the club curtains thats for sure! If you
have not seen Catfish, see them - trust me, they are a band that should be soon
playing all the major festivals. When they come back to the Bottleneck
there will be sold out signs up, no doubt. Well done Catfish for a great night
- beats watching telly thats for sure!"
For this month, certainly not a debut, however, a long
awaited return after circa 18 months of a forefront club favourite, The
Spikedrivers. There's not a lot more to say really, other than
they are the epitome of superb musicianship, coupled with showmanship and a
delivery that only great experience can bring. They superbly create their
own music and the tunes they cover, they make their own.
Tickets £12.00, pay on the door. Bookings to me at the
return email address. Doors open 7.30pm, band on stage 8.45pm. Good
food, reasonably priced, available to eat at your table if required. Further
information, upcoming shows, location map etc., available at www.bottleneckblues.com.
So, that's The Spikedrivers, appearing
on Tuesday 30th May.
Please do support.
