The
Lighthouse is set to host a special double-bill of live music
to mark the 50th anniversary of the ?Summer Of Love'
phenomenon.
In 1967, nearly 100,000 free-spirited adventurers congregated
in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood in San Francisco, USA to
join a cultural revolution that created some of the era's most
memorable music, art, fashion and literature.
The show will feature live music from Cocos Lovers,
with special support from Funke And The Two Tone Baby.
Operating well beyond the remit of alt-folk, Cocos Lovers are a
distinctive musical force, seamlessly channelling influences
from Africa, the US Deep South and several other real and
imagined corners of the globe, while staying ever faithful to
their Kentish roots. Their music swells with powerful
choir-like harmonies and glorious widescreen melodies, and
they've earned a reputation for fantastic live performances
with an ever-changing instrumental line-up of mandolin,
acoustic and electric guitars, violin, musical saw, flute and a
unique blend of drums and percussion.
Support on the night will come from Funke And The Two
Tone Baby. Often described as "a one man sonic
explosion", his sound fuses frenzied alt-blues with metronomic
dance beats. Combining guitar and harmonica with beatboxing and
effects that seamlessly collide the organic with the mechanical
to create a fresh sound of unstoppable rhythm and unrelenting
melody.
The evening will feature original music from each act, with
occasional cover versions from the 1967 era specially arranged
for the event, along with projections of footage of the time
that will forever be remembered as the ?Summer Of Love'.
