The Salts:
Songs from the Sea? | 26th July | Wilton's Music Hall
Sea shanties always feel at home at Wilton's, probably
because they would have been some of the first tunes sung in the
Mahogany Bar by the sailors passing through. From the
melancholy of 'Bound For South Australia' to the comic relief of
'Drunken Sailor', The Salts are back with a rousing collection of
everyone's favourite shanties. Joined by special guests The
Broadside Boys, they present an evening of music to lift spirits, fit
for the rough seas! FIND OUT MORE
London
English Song Festival: Over There!? | 18th - 20th July |
Wilton's Music Hall
As we approach the centenary of the first world war,
there are historical events seemingly everywhere. But what about the
art that came out of the war - from the soldiers who were actually
there on the ground?
In this year's London English Song Festival, Chelsea Pensioner and
former soldier William K Gorrie reads the words of some of the poets
of the great war such as Siegfried Sassoon and Rupert Brooke, whilst
a collection of singers perform popular and classical song, from Ian
Venebles to Pete Seeger. Specifically commemorating the alliance
of the UK and USA, we remember both the cruelty and brotherhood
experienced. FIND OUT MORE
