Just want to remind you that Martin Carthy is
coming to play for us this weekend
(Old Chapel, Alfriston Sat 28th October at 7.30pm)
For almost fifty years Martin Carthy has been one
of folk music's greatest innovators, one of its best loved, most
enthusiastic and at times, most quietly controversial.
His skill, stage presence and natural charm have
won him many admirers and awards; including an MBE in 1998 and a
Lifetime Achievement Award at a star studded 2014 BBC Folk Awards
Ceremony.
He is a ballad singer, a story teller, a
ground-breaking acoustic and electric-guitarist and an
authoritative interpreter of newly composed material.
Perhaps, most significant of all, however, are his
settings of traditional songs with guitar, which have influenced
a generation of artists on both sides of the Atlantic, including
Bob Dylan and Paul Simon.
With a back-catalogue that includes trailblazing
musical partnerships with Steeleye Span, Dave Swarbrick, The
Imagined Village and his twice nominated Mercury Prize daughter
Eliza, Martin Carthy brings his ground-breaking music style to
the beautiful setting of the Old Chapel in Alfriston.
