BIGFOOT,  USA
Thur 15 Feb 7.30pm

Lewes Con Club 139 High St, Lewes BN7 1XS

     Bigfoot Old Time Band   ?12

Rhys Jones fiddle, vocals
Cleek Schrey, fiddles
John Herrmann, banjo
Susie Goehring  guitar, vocals
Meredith McIntosh, bass, vocals

Support band. Local band The Kitchen Pickers will be playing Cajun and Old Time in the bar before the gig

In 2010, Bigfoot burst upon the old-time music scene, which is to say, they formed as a band, won the traditional band contest at Clifftop, and caused people to look up and say, "Wow, they're really good." (Okay, so old-time musicians aren't all masters of rhetorical effusion.) Of course, individually, these musicians had already shown themselves for years to be talented, accomplished, and fun to accept a free beer from.
Their combination of two fiddles, guitar, banjo and bass is  the best old-time string band sound, especially for dancing. The vocals are spot on, beautiful harmonies, . These folks give an equally wonderful and authentic old-time flavour to the songs they perform
We are immensely lucky to have Bigfoot do a show for us..it's going to be one of those wonderful,  memorable evenings, highly recommended.

Sarah Savoy's Cajun Raunchy Tonk
Sun 4 March   6.30 - 10pm
Tunbridge Wells Forum: voted NME's best independent music venue!

The Forum Tunbridge Wells, voted NME's best independent music venue, with Cajunbarn present Sarah Savoy's Cajun Raunchy Tonk.
Born and raised on the bayous and prairies of Louisiana Sarah belts out sassy blues, growls through honky-tonk-inspired Cajun, country & rockabilly songs of the 1940s and 50s, and wails the bitterness of some of Cajun music's most forlorn waltzes. Sarah and her band will be kicking up the dust for this special gig at The Forum.

The Odd Folk
Fri 23 March  7.30
House Gig in Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells
?10 donation to the band

"...The best folk band you've never heard of!" say The Guardian.

A passionately ramshackle quintet, playing their own brand of "triumphant folk" while journeying up and down the country in a vintage Renault 4! Recently seen supporting young troubadour Johnny Flynn and folk legend  Steve Tilston
They have played such a variety of gigs; from festival main stages to the tiniest alcove of an old pub, The Tate Gallery to the corner of an old barn  with holes in the roof. They treat each 'giggle' with the same gusto
and aim to make people smile and bounce!

Up close and personal, this house gig promises a great show and huge fun. A rare chance to see The Odd Folk before their European tour.

Tickets are a donation to the band, suggested ?10. BYO drinks, free tea and coffee.

Vera van Heeringen Trio
Sat 14 April
Lewes Con Club 139 High St, Lewes BN7 1XS

Vera van Heeringen's debut album, Standing Tall, was released in 2012 and marked a change of direction after nearly five years of touring as part of the brilliantly comedic New Rope String Band. With influences firmly rooted across the Atlantic, Vera writes soulful songs and tunes with lyrics and delivery speaking straight to - and from - the heart. A highly skilled instrumentalist, she has long been recognised for her graceful yet gutsy guitar playing. In 2015 Vera released her second album, Proper Brew, which features a list of musicians who share her musical aesthetic, including Tim O'Brien, Dirk Powell, Rayna Gellert and Kris Drever. A third album is upcoming.
It's unusual to find someone who's as good a songwriter as an instrumentalist, who brings the guitar to life in way that is entirely her own.
Currently Vera tours with a solid acoustic trio compromising harmony king Dave Luke on guitar, vocals and mandolin. Dave has been the backbone of many hard working country bands and toured extensively with Nashville singer songwriter Gail Davies, playing the likes of the Grand Ole Opry. On double bass she's got record producer extraordinaire Andy Seward. Andy was part of folk superstar Kate Rusby's band as well as working with Eddi Reader, Richard Thompson and Andy Cutting. He currently plays with Martin Simpson and Brooks Williams.

"She can play anything with strings, write fine songs and sing them too. Go see her play live..."
Tim O'Brien
