Out-of-print Titles Added to the Smithsonian Folkways Collection

Of course, this year we've been riding high with new albums from Folkways icons like Ella Jenkins (Camp Songs with Ella Jenkins and Friends), and critically lauded artists like Dan Zanes (Lead Belly, Baby!), Rahim AlHaj (Letters from Iraq), and Quetzal (The Eternal Getdown). Smithsonian Folkways has also been welcoming new-to-us works of great artistic and cultural significance, most of which have been out-of-print or unavailable until now.

The London Library of Recorded English

The London Library of Recorded English is a collection of recorded poetry and prose that features the works of renowned figures in English language literature including John Keats, Robert Frost, Dylan Thomas, William Shakespeare, and many others. The long out-of-print series was originally released on Alpha Records in the late 1940s and on Britam Classic Recordings in the mid-1960s. This inclusion of the London Library adds to the already expansive Smithsonian Folkways poetry and prose recordings. Learn more and purchase here.

Pacific Northwest Medicine Songs of the Four Seasons

Traditionally trained singer Johnny Moses of the indigenous Nuu-chah-nulth and Tulalip Coast Salish peoples presents Pacific Northwest Coast medicine songs on Pacific Northwest Medicine Songs of the Four Seasons. The song cycle offers a direct connection to the powers and healing properties of each season and insight into Native philosophy and life in the worlds of nature, spirituality, and community.
