Refugee Week 2018 Celebration
Simple Acts of Kindness

Wed 20 June 2018
Gulbenkian, Canterbury

This year, Refugee Week is celebrating its 20th birthday and Gulbenkian are joining in festivities with an evening of theatre, film, art, food and music which celebrate the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees.

Working in partnership with Kent Refugee Action Network (KRAN) and East Kent City of Sanctuary, Gulbenkian is putting on a special evening event for the local community called ?Simple of Acts of Kindness? which will involve poetry, theatre, music, screenings and talks on the theme of refuge and asylum.

Gulbenkian?s drama group for unaccompanied young refugees and asylum-seekers, ?KRAN Fam? will be performing. Members of SCREEN31, Gulbenkian?s group for budding young film-makers, will also be screening a short film charting the journey of two young Syrian refugees to the UK.

As a part of the evening's celebrations, you will get the chance to sample delicious food made from recipes collected from the refugee community in Kent. These recipes feature in a recipe book, 'Let me cook for you', created by KRAN which will be available to purchase during the evening for ?6.  A couple of the dishes will also be available to purchase throughout the day on Wednesday 20th June at the Gulbenkian cafe.

The evening will culminate in food and music from across the globe to launch KRAN?s 15th birthday celebrations.

?Working with unaccompanied young refugees is a key part of our work at Gulbenkian and we are so pleased to give them a platform to showcase their talents.? Eleanor Cocks, Head of Creative Learning, Gulbenkian

All proceeds from the event will go to the charity to support their invaluable work with vulnerable young people. We hope that you can join us for a very special evening involving some incredibly brave individuals.
