Good afternoon to you all! We bring news from the revolving doors of The Lighthouse.

Ian East & The Trio
TONIGHT - Wednesday 29th April
Tickets ?6 in advance, available at venue, or Smugglers Records Shop in town and online HERE.
(Tickets ?7 on the door)

Doors: 7pm // Live music from 8pm

The Lighthouse will reopen on Wednesday the 29th to host a monthly ticketed jazz session. This week will feature the remarkable playing of Ian East, backed by the house trio.

Daevid Allen, founder of Gong and Soft Machine, was quoted as saying, "Ian East is here to put wings to your heart and offer a fresh new contextual relationship with your thinking box."

Ian grew up in multi-cultural London within a stimulating home environment of jazz and classical music. He began saxophone studies at the age of 11 and completed his musical education at the Royal Academy of Music. Ian has been musical director and/or composer for numerous bands over the years including Soundial (nu-jazz world beat) Brasil Universo (Brazilian jazz) and Momentito (contemporary jazz originals).

Now onto more details of this week's events ...

Thursday 30th April

Stompin' Dave Allen

Pub open from 5pm // Live music from 8:30pm

FREE ENTRY (though donations welcome!)

Stompin' Dave is a vocalist, multi instrumentalist and tap dancer (!), described by Maverick Magazine as "one of the world's greatest performers."

He is a master of all kinds of American roots music, ranging from bluegrass to electric blues guitar and boogie piano, with a nice line in self-deprecating patter between numbers. He's partial to showbiz gimmicks, juggling with his banjo and playing his guitar behind his head like Hendrix, but there is great sincerity and feeling in his performance too.

Saturday 2nd May

Katus and Yankuba Conteh

Pub open from 12pm // Live music from 8:30pm

FREE ENTRY

Katu?' new album ?The Spring of 2022' is a truly world mix of English, Czech, Polish, Russian and Mandinka. In 2013 she met Yankuba Conteh on her way to the ?Festival of the Desert' and they spent a month performing together. Yankuba follows his father and grandfather in the griot tradition of storytelling, composing & performing. The duo are accompanied by Ben Monypenny on fiddle and Tom Corda-Stanley on double bass.

Friday 1st May

The 1969 Club // Meg Janaway

Pub open from 5pm // Live music from 8:30pm

FREE ENTRY

The band who hail from Renne in France, will be bring their own brand of exhilarating and dirty music to the East Kent coast.

Their fuzzed-up take on garage rock also explores realms of psychedelia and ?stoner-rock' genres. This'll be a rare chance to catch the band as they pass through on their UK tour.

Watch a (rather shocking) video of there's HERE.

Support comes from local singer Meg Janaway who'll be performing her original soulful folk songs.
