Hugh
Mitchell Quartet feat. Tony Coe // Blues Is A Primary Colour //
Justin & The Argonauts // 'Sunday Service' feat. Aaron's
Aardvarks
Good afternoon to you all. We bring weekly event news from the
revolving doors of The Lighthouse!
First up, just wanted to say thanks for supporting us and all the
events we host! As some of you are aware, apart from our website, a
good way to stay updated about events coming up is via our Facebook
page HERE. Please visit us and hit the
'like' button.
Also, the way Facebook handles event invites is eternally a bit
cranky. One highly recommended thing to do is visit our events page
on there and hit the 'subscribe' button. You'll have advance notice
of any events we publish. Since we'll be announcing some pretty
special events soon, its a good thing to do!
Also, if you haven't linked up with us via Facebook yet, you can
find our page HERE.
You can also find us on Twitter HERE.
Now onto more details of this week's events ...

There
will be live music on Thursday with a special event featuring
Tony Coe, one of the true giants of British Jazz!
Coe began his performing career playing with Humphrey
Lyttelton's band from 1957 to 1962. In 1965 he was invited to
join Count Basie's band ("I'm glad it didn't come off - I would
have lasted about a fortnight") and has since played with the
John Dankworth Orchestra, the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big
Band, Derek Bailey's free improvisation group Company, Stan
Tracey, Michael Gibbs, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie and Bob
Brookmeyer, and performed under Pierre Boulez as well as
leading a series of groups of his own, including Coe Oxley
& Co with drummer Tony Oxley. He played clarinet on Paul
McCartney's recording of "I'll Give You A Ring", released in
1982, and saxophone on John Martyn's 1973 album Solid Air.
The rhythm section will consist of Hugh Mitchell on piano,
Dario Di Lecce on bass and Peter Chanter on drums. Their
job is to provide a platform for Tony to play the standards and
original material for which he is world-famous. Tony's magic is
in the way that he interprets standards and harmonises them in
his own way.

The
recently formed group are a fresh four piece ensemble from
Rochester. Comprised of violin, accordion, guitar and tuba they
play an eclectic blend and fast paced tango, classical and out
there pop as you've never heard it before.
They have been making a big splash with their Klezmer "Hit Me
Baby" and jazz tinged "Tainted Love" to much local acclaim.

FRIDAY 26th AUGUST
Blues Is A Primary Colour
Open from 5pm // Ale Happy Hour 6-7pm // Live music from 8:30pm
FREE
ENTRY
|
|
This
will be a music and projection performance through the prism of
blues, with live music by Justin Lavash and projections by
Darrell J?nsson. We are taken from the blues' Delta origins to
the primal electricity found on nearly every dance floor today.
An acoustic guitar and a dazzling right-hand and bottleneck
create a veritable blues orchestra fronted with a resonant
voice and engaging compositions, steeped in the spirit of the
folk and Delta blues. Projections weave through the music in
real time, integrating with the songs to produce an incredibly
compelling show.
